This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Assumpta was born Walburga Koesters on September 16, 1917 in Cartagena, OH. She entered the Ossining Congregation in September 1941 and received the habit on April 22, 1942. She pronounced first vows on May 12, 1943 and final vows on May 15, 1946. During her years in the congregation she served in the following Dominican Sisters Home Health Care Agencies: Dayton, OH, 1949-1950, 1956-1962; Columbus, OH, 1950-1955; Bronx, NY, 1955-1956; and New York City, 1962-1970. Sister became a Community Health Nurse and Director of Special Clinics for Governor Health Service, Manhattan, NY, 1971-1980. She was pastoral director of Clermont County Hospital, later called Clermont Mercy Hospital, Batavia, OH, 1981-. Sister was pastoral minister to the homebound and sick, St. Bernadette Parish, Amelia, OH, 1991, 2004. She then moved to the Maria-Joseph Living Care Center, Dayton, OH. Sister Assumpta earned: an RN from St. Catherine Hospital, Brooklyn, NY; a BS in Nursing from the University of Dayton, OH; an MS in Community Health from Long Island University; her Clinical Pastoral Education, (CPE) from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Lafayette, LA. She died January 8, 2008.
