This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Estelle was born Estelle Kilpatrick on May 30, 1929 in Newburgh, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1938 and received the habit on June 18, 1939 when she was given the religious name, Sister Maris Stella. (She began using the name, Sister Estelle after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 19, 1940 and final vows on August 20, 1946. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Casa San Jose, Newburgh, NY, 1941-1944; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1944-1945; Mt St Mary Academy High School, Newburgh, NY, 1945-1947; and Pope Pius XII Regional High School, Passaic, NJ, 1948-1952. Sister Maris Stella was principal of Sts. John and Paul, Larchmont, NY, 1952-1961 and teacher at Nativity, Bronx, NY, 1961-1962. She also taught at: Mt St Mary College, Newburgh, NY, 1962-1963, 1969-1982; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1963-1965; and Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, NY, 1965-1967. She also served as a member of the finance office staff for the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY, 1982-. Sister Estelle earned: her BS in Elementary Education; her MA in Secondary Education from Catholic University, Washington, DC; and an Ed.D in Curriculum from Columbia University. Sister moved to the Wartburg, Mt. Vernon, NY. She died January 25, 2020.
