This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Andrea was born Yvonne Jurewicz on April 16, 1927 in Shenandoah, PA. She entered the Sisters of Holy Family of Nazareth on February 2, 1949. There is no record for reception of the habit. She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1951 and final vows on September 15, 1957. She transferred her vows to the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, Ossining, NY in 1992. During her years in the congregation she served in the following ministries: accountant for the Little Flower House of Providence, Wading River, PA, 1962-1972, and St. Catherine of Siena, Philadelphia, PA, 1972-1975. Sister Andrea then engaged in pastoral care at St. John Neumann Nursing Home, Philadelphia, 1975-1978. She was provincial treasurer and assistant at Nazareth Academy, Philadelphia, PA, 1978-1979, and was director of pastoral care at Nazareth Hospital, Philadelphia, 1979-1991. Sister Andrea was, at various times: volunteer patient representative; and counselor; and hospice volunteer coordinator at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, 1992-1997. She served briefly as pastoral bereavement counselor at Wissahickon Hospice, Philadelphia, in 1997. Sister was engaged in grief counseling and spiritual ministry at Saunders Retirement Home, Wynnewood, PA, 1997-1998, and at Stapley at Germantown, Germantown, PA, 1998 –. Sister was a volunteer HIV counselor at University of PA/HIV Clinic in 1998. Sister Andrea earned her BA in Economics from Holy Family College, PA, and her MA Ed in Counseling from Villanova University, PA. She also completed a Clinical Pastoral Education program at Allentown State Hospital/Mercy Catholic Health.
