Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Eileen was born Eileen Hollen on April 28, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA. She entered the Sisters of Holy Family of Nazareth on September 8, 1968. There is no record for reception of the habit. She pronounced first vows on August 12, 1971 and final vows on September 13, 1975. She transferred her vows to the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, Ossining, NY in 1992. During her years in the congregation she served in the following ministries: Saint Catherine of Siena School, Philadelphia, PA , 1972-1973; and Nazareth Academy in Philadelphia, PA, 1973-1974. After completion of studies for her nursing degree, she worked briefly at Saint John Neumann Nursing Home, Philadelphia, PA, and was a nurse at Nazareth Hospital, Philadelphia, 1976-1991 Sister was a clinical nurse specialist in cardiology at Presbyterian Hospital Medical Center in Philadelphia, 1991-1997. She ministered as an adult health nurse practitioner at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, 1997-. Sister Eileen earned her BSN from Holy Family College, and her MSN from the University of Delaware. She also earned certification as a nurse practitioner in the state of Pennsylvania.
