This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Janice was born Janice Heery on July 22, 1936 in Woodbury, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on December 8, 1954 and received the habit on June 13, 1955 when she was given the religious name, Sister Jean Michael. (She began using the name, Sister Janice after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1956 and final vows on August 21, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Brendan, New Haven, CT, 1956-1961; Cathedral Elementary, Raleigh, NC, 1961-1970; Saint Rose of Lima, Haddon Heights, NJ, 1970-1971, 1976-1985, 1990-; and Saint Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1971-1976, 1985-1990. Sister Janice earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY. She died July 14, 2015.
