This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Claretta was born Marion Hastings on July 17, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on February 2, 1928 and received the habit on August 24, 1928 when she was given the religious name, Sister Claretta. She pronounced first vows on August 27, 1929 and final vows on August 20, 1935. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Joan of Arc, Fairview, NJ, 1930-1949, 1969-1976; Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1949-1950; Villa Caparra, Puerto Rico, 1950-1960; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1960-1963; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1963-1965; St. Mary, Deal, NJ, 1965-1969; and Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic, NJ, 1976-1982, as secretary. Sister also served as part time secretary to the Infirmary administration, and receptionist, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1982-1984. Sister Claretta earned her BS in Education. She died July 3, 2001.
