This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Rose Marie was born Rose Marie Harkins on July 11, 1933 in Paterson, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1954 and received the habit on June 13, 1955 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Patricia. (She began using the name, Sister Rose Marie after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1956 and final vows on August 21, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Lawrence, Lindenwold, NJ, 1956-1959; St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1959-1968; Christ the King, Yonkers, where she was principal, 1968-1977; and Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, NY, 1977-1979. Sister Rose Marie served on the Leadership Team of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY, 1979-1987. After pursuing full-time study, she was appointed pastoral associate at Holy Name of Mary Parish in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, where she served until 1991. She was elected Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY, and served, 1991-1995. Sister was director of the catechumenate and coordinator of adult formation at Immaculate Conception Parish, Tuckahoe, NY, and director of the catechumenate, coordinator of the Baptism program and adult formation in St. Patrick’s Parish in Yorktown Heights, NY, 1998-2004. Sr. Rose Marie also ministered at Mariandale Retreat & Conference Center, Ossining, NY, where she was engaged in spiritual direction and retreat ministry. She also coordinated the, We Proclaim Ministry of the Word Institute, in Mariandale. Sister Rose Marie earned: her BA in History and English from Villanova University, PA; her MS in Secondary Education and Social Studies from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY; and her MA in Religion and Spirituality from Fordham University. Sister moved to the Wartburg Assisted Living, Mt. Vernon, NY.
