This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Grace Marie was born Elizabeth Gurba on November 1, 1898 in Trenton, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 5, 1920 and received the habit on March 28, 1921 when she was given the religious name, Sister Grace Marie. She pronounced first vows on August 28, 1924 and final vows on August 28, 1930 During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Laurel Springs, NJ, 1921-1922; Perth Amboy, NJ, 1922-1923, 1924-1928; Camden, NJ, 1928-1936; Durham, NC, 1936-1943; Bayonne, NJ, 1943-1944; Cornwall, NY, 1944; St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1944-1948; Stratfield, CT, 1948-1954; St. Peter, Rosendale, NJ, 1954-1962; Sacred Heart, Raleigh, NC, 1962-1964; Sts. Peter and Paul, Trenton, NJ, 1964-1973; St. Rose, Haddon Heights, 1973-1974; and Assumption, Fairfield, CT, 1974. She moved to Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY in 1974. Sister Grace Marie earned her BS in Elementary Education from Seton Hall University. She died October 30, 1997.
