Scope and Contents
This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Jean Miriam was born Pauline Grieshaber on March 23, 1907 in Washington, DC. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1929 and received the habit on June 20, 1930 when she was given the religious name, Sister Jean Miriam. She pronounced first vows on June 23, 1931 and final vows on August 20, 1937. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Our Lady of victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1933-1934; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1934; Poughkeepsie, NY, 1934-1936, 1937-1943; Newburgh, NY, 1936-1937; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1943-1960, and 1974-1980, part time; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1960-1961; St. Patrick, Newburgh, NY, 1961-1965; Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1965-1967; and St. Mary, Paterson, NJ, 1967-1974. Sister contributed congregational services in St. Mary Convent, Deal, NJ, 1980-. Sister Jean Miriam earned a BS in elementary Education from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. She died August 12, 2002.
