This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Theresa was born Theresa Gonyea on April 27, 1932 in Bedford, NY. She entered the Fall River Congregation on August 27, 1947 and received the habit on August 25, 1948 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Bernadette. (She began using the name, Sister Theresa after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 30, 1949 and final vows on August 30, 1953. During her years in the congregation she served in the following places providing domestic services: St. Rose, Acushnet, MA; St. Augustine, Peru, NY, 1967-1969; St. Dominic, Plattsburgh, NY, 1969-1970; St. Catherine of Siena, Fall River, MA, 1970-1972; St. Bernadette, New haven, CT, 1972-1976; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1976-1980; Christian Appalachian Project, Berea, KY, 1980-1984, 1991-1995; and Emmaus House, Berea, KY, 1988-1991. Sister moved to Siena Hall, Newburgh, NY in 1995. She died February 3, 2009.
