This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Anne was born Anne Gilson on October 8, 1919 in Haddon Heights, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 7, 1938 and received the habit on June 18, 1939 when she was given the religious name, Sister Evangelista. (She began using the name, Sister Anne after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 19, 1940 and final vows on August 20, 1946. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1941-1943; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1943-1944; Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic, NJ, 1944-1947, 1948-1950; Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester, NJ, 1950-1962, and 1968-1972, when she was assistant principle and taught in guidance and counseling; Immaculate High School, Danbury, CT, 1962-1968, 1976-1984, Guidance Co-Director, 1984-1985; tutoring in the Higher Education Opportunities Program, (HEOP), Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY, 1975-1976. Sister also served as: prioress, Mt. St. Mary Convent, Newburgh, NY, 1972-1976; Administrator of Mt. St. Mary Infirmary, 1985-1990; Archivist, 1990-1995, for the Newburgh Congregation, and 1995-1999, 2004-2007, for the Hope Congregation; and Coordinator of community at the Center of Hope, Fall River, MA, 1998-1999. Sister Anne earned her BS in Secondary Education and her MS in Zoology from Catholic University, Washington, DC. She died April 14, 2013.
