This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister John of the Cross was born Albertina Gagnon on November 17, 1907 in Fall River, MA. She entered the Fall River Congregation on September 21, 1926 and received the habit on July 26, 1927 when she received the religious name, Sister John of the Cross. She pronounced first vows on August 4, 1928 and final vows on August 4, 1932. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA, 1926-1933, 1940-1945, 1946-1949, 190-1961; St. Anne, Fall River, MA, 1933-1934; St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA, 1934-1936, 1955-1958; St. Peter High School, Plattsburgh, NY, 1936-1940, 1945-1946,1949-1955; and Chateaugay, NY, Religious Education, 1958-1960. She also ministered at St. Catherine Convent, Fall River, MA, 1979-1992. Sister moved to Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River, MA in 1992. She died September 23, 1995.
