Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Nadine was born Nadine Fodor on November 12, 1947 in Passaic, NJ. She entered the Felician Sisters of Lodi, NJ on August 22, 1968 and received the habit on August 2, 1969 when she was given the religious name, Sister Christyn. (She began using the name, Sister Nadine after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 1, 1971 and final vows on June 30, 1976. She transferred to the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY, June 30, 1991. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Joseph, Demarest, NJ, 1971-1974 ; Passaic Catholic Regional School, Passaic, NJ, 1974-1976; Sacred Heart, South Amboy, NJ, 1976-1977; and St. Casimir, Newark, NJ, 1977-1978. She worked in the Instruction Department of Teacher Education at Felician College in Lodi, NJ, 1978-1980, and was assistant professor of education at Felician College, 1980-1983. Sister was pastoral associate and director of religious education at St. Brigid/St. Elizabeth Church in Peapack/Far Hills, NJ, 1984-1990, and was pastoral associate as well as director of religious education and RCIA at St. Agnes Church in Clark, NJ, 1991-1996. She was pastoral associate and did family counseling at Our lady of Czestochowa Church, 1997-2006. She was also co-vocation director for the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 1997-1999. Sister has done family and individual counseling and has been pastoral associate at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills, NJ. Sister Nadine earned: her BA in Education from Felician College, Lodi, NJ; her MS in Education from Fordham University; her MA in Pastoral Ministry from Fordham University; and her MS in Family Counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY.
