From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Margaret was born Margaret Flynn on January 18, 1945 in Bronx, NY. She entered the Ossining Congregation on August 30, 1963 and received the habit on September 8, 1964 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Charles. (She began using the name, Sister Margaret after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on February 2, 1966 and final vows on May 26, 1973. During her years in the congregation she served in the following Dominican Sisters Home Health Care Agencies: Ossining, NY, Bronx, NY, 1963-1968; Hampton Bays, NY, 1968-1970; and Harlem, NY, 1975-1976. She worked in the Clairfield Clinic of Jellico Sisters Nursing Service in Jellico, TN 1970-1975. She ministered with the Dominican Sisters Nursing Service at the Advocate Center in Norton, VA, 1977-1980. Sister served on the central administration council of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, 1988-1995.She then returned to the Advocate Center in Norton as a community health nurse engaged in social services, outreach, and advocacy, 1995-. Sister Margaret earned her LPN from Grasslands School of Nursing and her RN from the University of Kentucky. She died February 13, 2020.
