This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Clare was born Clare Flanagan on October 9, 1910 in New York City. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on February 2, 1935 and received the habit on August 2, 1935 when she was given the religious name, Sister Ricarda. (She began using the name, Sister Clare after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 21, 1936 and final vows on August 20, 1942. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Our Lady of Victory Business School, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1942-1953; Nativity, Bronx, NY, 1953-1959; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1959-1962 ;St. Patrick, Woodbury, NJ, 1962-1968; Immaculate High School, Danbury, CT, 1968-1971; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, 1971-1977; Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, NY, 1977-1978; Our Lady of the Assumption, Fairfield, CT, 1978-1981. Sister also ministered in Marist High School, Bayonne, NJ, as a secretary, typing teacher, and tutor, 1981-1983. Sister Clare earned both a BS and MA in Business Education from Columbia University. She died January 13, 2007.
