This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Lorraine was born Lorraine Ferguson on April 13, 1926 in Yonkers, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 7, 1947 and received the habit on June 23, 1948 when she was given the religious name, Sister Ann Gregory. (She began using the name, Sister Lorraine after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1949 and final vows on August 22, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Dominican Day School, Larchmont, NY, 1949-1951; Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1951-1952; Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, NY, 1952-1959; St. Ursula, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1959-1962 and as, principal, 1971-1973; St. Peter, Rosendale, NY, 1962-1963; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1963-1965; and St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1965-1966. She was principal at Sts. John & Paul, Larchmont, NY, 1966-1969. She also taught at: St. Rose, Haddon Heights, NJ, 1969-1970; Holy Trinity, Passaic ,NJ 1970-1971; Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, NY, and Sts. John & Paul, Larchmont, NY, 1973-1975. She moved to secondary level and taught art at Pope Pius XII Regional High School, Passaic, NJ, 1975-1978 and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1978-1985. Sister Lorraine then began the ministry of expressive therapist at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH, 1985-1988, and then at St. Luke Institute, Suitland, MD, 1988-1991, where she was also an alcoholism counselor, 1992-1995. Sister served in congregational administration for the Newburgh Congregation, 1991-1995. Following a sabbatical, she was a psychotherapist at Sarabrae Women’s Center, New Windsor, NY, 1996-1997 and at Mariandale Retreat & Conference Center, Ossining, NY ,1997-2004, where she was also an addictions counselor. Sister Lorraine was coordinator of the Mariandale Chapel Art Gallery and a workshop facilitator, 2005-. Sister Lorraine earned: her BS in Education from Seton Hall University; her MA in Art at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana; and her MA in Expressive Therapy at Lesley College, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
