Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Anita Pauline was born Pauline Anita Durocher on March 19, 1910 in Plattsburgh, NY. She entered the Fall River Congregation on August 3, 1929 and received the habit on June 30, 1930 when she received the religious name, Sister Anita Pauline. She pronounced first vows on July 1, 1931 and final vows on July 1, 1935. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Ann, Fall River, MA, 1929-1936, 1937-1939; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1936-1937; St. Peter High School, Plattsburgh, NY, 1939-1941, 1945-1956, and 1956-1958, as principal; St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA, 1941-1945; Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA, 1958-1970, 1978-1990, part time. Sister also contributed volunteer services to St. Joseph Community, North Dartmouth, MA, 1990-. Sister Anita Pauline earned a: BA in Science from St. Michael's College, Winooski, VT, and an MA in Science from Providence College, Providence, RI. She received a National Science Foundation Grant from Boston College, 1960-1962, and a certificate in recognition of services rendered from the Massachusetts Region III Science Fair, 1961-1981. She died December 8, 2003.
