This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Joanne was born Ann Rose Durcanin on December 16, 1928 in Trenton, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1947 and received the habit on June 23, 1948 when she was given the religious name, Sister Marie Joanne. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1949 and final vows on August 22, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1949-1955: Christ the King, Yonkers, NY, 1955-1961; Sts. John and Paul, Larchmont, NY, 1961-1968; Our Lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1968-1972; St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1972-1973; and St. Mary, New Mammoth, NJ, 1993-. Sister Joanne earned her BS in Elementary Education from Seton Hall University, and her MS in Education from Scranton University, Scranton, NY. She died December 16, 1997.
