This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Eileen was born Eileen Duffy on January 28, 1930 in Bronxville, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1958 and received the habit on June 15, 1959 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Edward. (She began using the name, Sister Eileen after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1960 and final vows on August 21, 1963. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1962-1965; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1965-1969; and at St. Peter, Rosendale, NY, 1969-1971, where she was also principal. She served in the school office of the Archdiocese of New York for one year, 1971-1972. Sister was pastoral minister at Holy Family Parish in New Rochelle, NY, 1974-1976. In 1985, Sister Eileen became pastoral care assistant at Sacred Heart Parish, Newburgh, NY. She visited parishioners in several nursing facilities and hospitals and made home visits. Sister Eileen earned her AA in Advertising Art from Lasell Jr. College, Auburndale, MA and her BA in Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY.
