This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marie Jeanne was born Marie Rene Bernadette Dionne on February 16, 1910 in Providence, RI. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1931 and received the habit on July 12, 1932 when she was given the religious name, Sister Antoninus. (She began using the name, Sister Marie Jeanne after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on July 13, 1933 and final vows on August 21, 1939. During her years in the congregation... she served in the following schools: St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1933-1934; St. Augustine, Larchmont, NY, 1934-1941; St. Mary, Paterson, NJ, 1941-1957; Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1957-1958; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1958-1961; Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1961-1964; Immaculate High School, Danbury, CT, 1964-1970; Gloucester Catholic HS, 1970-1974; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1975-1983, 1983-1984 as librarian. Sister also taught French at Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY. Sister Marie Jeanne earned her BS in Education and an MA in Religious Studies, both from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. She died March 23, 2005.
