Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Angela Marie was born Grace DiMartino on July 2, 1904 in New York City. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on February 2, 1925 and received the habit on August 22, 1925 when she was given the religious name, Sister Angela Marie. She pronounced first vows on August 23, 1926 and final vows on August 30, 1932. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1926-1940; Our Lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1940-1945; Guardian Angel, New York City, 1945-1952; St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1952-1956; Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1956-1968; and St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1968-1985. Sister Angela Marie earned her BS in Elementary Education from Seton Hall University. She died March 31, 1999.
