Biographical / Historical
Sister Margaret was born Margaret Devlin on March 12, 1938 in Astoria, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1960 and received the habit on June 7, 1961 when she was given the religious name, Sister John Maureen. She began using the name, Sister Margaret, (Peggy) after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 20, 1962 and final vows on March 24, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following ministries: executive secretary for the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY, 1962-1971; and formation coordinator, 1969-1971. She taught religion at Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester, NJ, 1971-1979. Sister was Assistant Superintendent of School Religious Education for the Diocese of Camden, NJ, 1979-1990. She was pastoral minister for Adult Faith Formation at Christ the King Parish in Haddonfield NJ, 1990-1993, and at Saint Mary’s Church in Cherry Hill NJ, 1993-2005. She then served as pastoral associate at St. Peter Celestine Parish in Cherry Hill NJ. Sister Margaret earned her BA in History and her MA in Religious Studies from Villanova University, PA and certification in Spiritual Direction.
