Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Linda was born Linda Delgado on December 17, 1941 in Dover, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1960 and received the habit on June 7, 1961 when she was given the religious name, Sister Ellen David. (She began using the name, Sister Linda after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 20, 1962 and final vows on March 24, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1962-1966; Saint Elizabeth, Elizabeth City, NC, 1966-1967; Saint Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1967-1972; and at Holy Family School in New Rochelle, NY, 1972-1978. Sister was director of religious education at Holy Family Parish, 1978-1980 and at Saint Virgil’s Parish in Morris Plains, NJ, 1980-1994. She was pastoral associate for Christian formation at St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, NJ, 1994-2007. Sister Linda earned her BS in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY and her MA in Religious Studies from Manhattan College. Sister moved to Marian Manor, Caldwell, NJ. She died October 9, 2017.
