This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Elizabeth was born Audrey DeBoer on March 24, 1931 in Guttenberg, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1949 and received the habit on June 16, 1950 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Elizabeth. She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1951 and final vows on August 24, 1954. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1952-1957; Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester, NJ, 1957-1960; Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1960-1967; and St. Joseph High School, Toms River, NJ, 1967-1969. She was principal at Immaculata School in Durham, NC, 1969-1980 and taught at: St. Thomas More, Chapel Hill, NC, 1981-1985; St. Catharine Interparochial School, Glen Rock, NJ, 1986-1990; and was its principal, 1990-1998. She also taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Greenville, MS, 1998-2007. Sister Mary Elizabeth earned her BS in Secondary Education from Fordham University, her MS in Biology from St. Mary College in Winona MN, and her M Ed in Reading and Language Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
