This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Jean Marie was born Marianne Darling on November 17, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1954 and received the habit on June 13, 1955 when she was given the religious name, Sister Jean Marie. She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1956 and final vows on August 21, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Joseph, Toms River, NJ; Saint Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY; and Cardinal Gibbons High School, Raleigh, North Carolina, 1966-1968. She was principal at Holy Family School in New Rochelle, NY, 1968-1971. Sister Jean Marie served in the guidance and counseling department of Mount Saint Mary Academy in Newburgh, NY, 1972-1979, and was academic advisor at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, 1979-1985. Sister Jean Marie then served as pastoral associate at Saint Elizabeth Parish in Avon, NJ where she worked with the elderly and homebound. Sister Jean Marie earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY, and her MA in Guidance from Villanova University, PA. She also attended Catholic University and Siena College.
