Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Michael Vincent was born Veronica Dailey on July 22, 1940 in Westville, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1958 and received the habit on June 16, 1959 when she was given the religious name, Sister Michael Vincent. She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1960 and final vows on August 21, 1963. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1960-1967;... St. Rose Haddon Heights, NJ, 1967-1969; St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1969-1972; St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1972-1978; Our Lady Star of the Sea, Long Branch, NJ, as Principal, 1978-1985; and Principal, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Moorestown, NJ, 1985-2000. In 2000 Sister moved to the infirmary at the Newburgh Center of Hope. She died September 5, 2005. See more
