This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Margaret James was born Eileen Curtin on July 14, 1928 in Westville, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 7, 1947 and received the habit on June 23, 1948 when she was given the religious name, Sister Margaret James. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1949 and final vows on August 22, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Joseph, Bayonne, NJ, 1949-1959; Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1959-1963; St. Peter, Rosendale, NY, 1963-1964; St. Elizabeth, Elizabeth City, NC, 1964-1967; St. Lawrence, Lindenwold, NJ, 1967-1973; and St Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1973-1990. She was engaged in parish work at St. Mary Parish in New Monmouth, NJ, 1990-2002 and also taught in the parish school from 1990-1998. Sister made weekly visits to Riverview Hospital in Red Bank and led the rosary for a group of her neighbors. She was also a Eucharistic minister. Sister Margaret James earned her BS in Elementary Education from Seton Hall University.
