This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Alice was born Alice Cronican on June 5, 1910 in New York City. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1929 and received the habit on June 20, 1930 when she was given the religious name, Sister Ann Gilbert. (She began using the name, Sister Alice, after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 23, 1931 and final vows on August 20, 1937. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Laurel Springs, NJ, 1932-1933; St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1933-1937, 1939-1958; Our lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1937-1939; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1960-1964; and Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1964-1980. Sister Alice earned a BS in Education from Seton Hall University. She died July 7, 2000
