This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Maureen was born Marie Cooper on July 24, 1936 in Camden, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1954 and received the habit on June 13, 1955 when she was given the religious name, Sister Maureen. She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1956 and final vows on August 21, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Mary, Paterson, NJ, 1956-1966; Saint Patrick, Woodbury, NJ, 1966-1972; Saint Lawrence, Lindenwold, NJ, 1972-1978; Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1978-1981. In 1981; Saint Mary, Gloucester, NJ. After 46 years of teaching elementary school, she resigned from full-time teaching in June 2002, and worked as a teacher’s aide, September 2002 to June 2004. Sister Maureen then served as librarian at Saint Mary School in Gloucester, NJ, 2004-. Sister Maureen earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY; and her MA in Religious Education from LaSalle University in Philadelphia. She died May 8, 2019.
