This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Noreen was born Noreen Conheeney on June 30, 1937 in Jersey City, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1955 and received the habit on June 12, 1956 when she was given the religious name, Sister Patricia Thomas. (She began using the name, Sister Noreen after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1957 and final vows on August 20, 1960. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ where she remained until 1970; and Saint Joseph Elementary School, Toms River, NJ; 1970-1979. She was director of religious education at Saint Joseph Parish in Toms River, NJ, 1979-1980. From 1980-93 Sister Noreen taught at Saint Paul School, Jersey City, NJ, 1980-1993. After that Sister Noreen served as a special education teacher at Henry Harris School in Bayonne, NJ. Sister was also Director of Religious instruction for handicapped adults and children and became President of the Board of Trustees of the Hudson Association for Retarded Citizens. Sister Noreen earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College and her MA in Special Religious Education from Cardinal Stritch College. She died on July 27, 2015.
