Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Rose Patricia was born Dorothy Clark on October 10, 1911 in Poughkeepsie, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1930 and received the habit on June 24, 1931 when she was given the religious name, Sister Rose Patricia. She pronounced first vows on June 24, 1932 and final vows on August 20, 1938. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Casa San Jose, Newburgh, NY, 1930-1931; Pleasantville, NY, 1933-1938; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1938-1941; Larchmont, NY, 1941-1944; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1944-1959; St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1959-1960; Reading Center, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1971-1976; and Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1976-1978. Sister also served as Postulant Mistress for the Newburgh Congregation, 1960-1965. She was elected as a member of the General Council, 1965-1971 and was Prioress of Mt. St. Mary complex, 1965-1971. Other service to the congregation include: Finance Office Staff, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1978-1991; and Development Office, Newburgh, NY, 1991-1995. In 1995 Sister retired to Siena Hall, Newburgh, NY. Sister Rose Patricia earned: a BS in Education, Villanova University; and an MA in Religion, Providence College, Providence, RI. She died on September 24, 2007.
