This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Jorene was born Jorene Cieciuch on June 26, 1930 in Jersey City, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1947 and received the habit on June 23, 1948 when she was given the religious name, Sister Helen Roberta. (She began using the name, Sister Jorene after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1949 and final vows on August 22, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Casa San Jose, Newburgh, NY, 1949-1950; St. Joan of Arch, Camden, NJ 1950-1956; Gloucester Catholic High School; Gloucester, NJ 1956-1964). Sister was principal at Holy Rosary School in Hawthorne, NY, 1964-1965. She was appointed formation director for the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, 1965-1971. Sister then returned to secondary education and taught at St. Joseph High School in Toms River, NJ, 1971-1976). Sister Jorene provided pastoral services for the Dominican Reflection Center in Ossining, NY, 1976-1982. During that time she also served as it director and co-director. She ministered in the Patient Representative Program at Saint Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, 1989-2007. Sister Jorene earned her BS in Music Education from Nazareth College, her MA in Musicology from Catholic University, and her MA in Religious Studies from the Maryknoll School of Theology. Sister moved to The Wartburg Assisted Care Center. She died November 24, 2016.
