This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marie Pauline was born Anna Check on May 11, 1911 in Trenton, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on June 1, 1929 and received the habit on December5, 1929 when she was given the religious name, Sister Marie Pauline. She pronounced first vows on December 9, 1930 and final vows on August 20, 1936. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Laurel Springs, NJ, 1935-1943; Elizabeth City, NC, 1943-1945; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1945-1959; Nativity, Bronx, NY, 1959-1965; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1965-1968; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1968-1971; Sts. Peter and Paul, Trenton, NJ, 1971-1973; and St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1973-1982. Sister then served as Coordinator for the Senior sister's community, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1982-1985. Sister Marie Pauline earned both a BA and an MA in Elementary Education, Villanova University. She died July 3, 1997.
