This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marie Bonaventure was born Elvira Captuo on June 17, 1900 in Rye, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on March 25, 1925 and received the habit on October 1, 1925 when she was given the religious name, Sister Marie Bonaventure. She pronounced first vows on October 1, 1926 and final vows on October 1, 1932. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Lawrence, Laurel Springs, NJ, 1926-1939; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1939-1942; Pope Pius XII, High School, Passaic, NJ, 1942-1953; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1953-1954; Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester, NJ, 1954-1965; Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1965-1969; St. Joseph High School, Toms River, NJ, 1969-1970; and St. Mary High School, Newburgh, NY, 1975-1976. Sister also served in the Bursar's Office, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1970-1974. Sister Marie Bonaventure earned: a BS in Education from Villanova University; and an MA in Mathematics from Villanova University. Sister also earned a certificate fro IBM computer Service. She died March 14, 1997.
