This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Eileen was born Eileen Byrne on June 11, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1946 and received the habit on June 25, 1947 when she received the religious name, Sister Jean Catherine. (She began using the name, Sister Eileen after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 26, 1948 and final vows on August 27, 1951. During her years in the congregation she served in the following ministries: Casa San Jose, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1946-1949, St. Peter School, Rosendale, NY, 1949-1950; St. Mary High School, Paterson, NJ, 1950-1952; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1956-1960; Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic, NJ, 1960-1964; Mt. St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, 1964-1969; and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1969-1971. Sister also served in Parish Ministry, St. Helena's, Bronx, NY, 1971-2002. Sister Eileen earned an AB from Trinity College, Washington, DC and an MA from Catholic University, Washington, DC. She died March 27, 2015.
