This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Nancy was born Nancy Burke on July 2, 1927 in Ireland. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1950 and received the habit on June 15, 1951 when she received the religious name, Sister John Margaret. (She began using the name, Sister Nancy after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1952 and final vows on August 24, 1955. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Laurel Springs, NJ, 1952; St. Boniface, Paterson, NJ, 1961-1966; Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson, NJ, 1966-1969; St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1969-1971; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, as Principal, 1971-1976; San Jose, Puerto Rico, 1976-1978; and Assumption School, Fairfield, Ct, 1978-. Sister Nancy earned an AB in Elementary Education from Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY. She died July 28, 2007.
