Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Anne Marie was born Constance Bucher on September 16, 1943 in Dayton, OH. She entered the Ossining Congregation on September 15, 1962 and received the habit on September 8, 1963. She pronounced first vows on February 2, 1965 and final vows on February 2, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following Dominican Sisters Home Health Care Agencies: Ossining, NY, 1962-1967, as a home health aide. She was a nurse with the Dominican Sisters Home Health Agency, Bronx, NY, 1969-1974; and in Hampton Bays, NY, 1974-1987. Sister was vocation director for the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, Ossining, NY, 1981-1987; and associate membership director, 1983-1995. During this time she also served as coordinator for the combined formation program of Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor and Newburgh Dominicans, 1987-1991. After completing a study program, she was a nurse with the Little Sisters of the Assumption, New York City, 1989-1998. Sister also served in HIV advocacy, 1995-1998. Sister Anne Marie was a public health nurse and massage therapist at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY, 1999-2005. She began working at Mary Manning Walsh Home in 2000. She has served the Congregation as health care consultant, 2005-. Sister Anne Marie earned her AS in Liberal Arts at Mary Rodgers; her BS in Nursing at Cornell New York Hospital School of Nursing; and her MA in Theological Studies – Justice and Peace at Maryknoll School of Theology. She also earned certification in Massage Therapy from the University of New York State.
