This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary was born Mary Agnes Brennan on March 25, 1906 in New York City. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 7, 1926 and received the habit on May , 1927 when she received the religious name, Sister Francis Teresa. (She began using the name, Sister Mary after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 16, 1928 and final vows on August 12, 1934. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Boniface, New York City, 1929-1932; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1932-1940; St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1940-1941; Guardian Angel, New York City, 1941-1944; Our Lady of Victory Business School, Principal and teacher, 1944-1952; St. Mary Passaic, NJ, 1952-1958; Principal, Pope Pius XII Diocesan High School, 1968-1969; Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Principal, 1958-1963; St. Mary High School, Gloucester, NJ, Principal, 1965-1967; Immaculate High School, Danbury, CT, 1967-1968; and St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1969-1970. Sister also served in Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY, as Treasurer, 1963-1965. Sister Mary served the congregation as: Secretarial Assistance to Personnel Director, 1970-1971; Secretary to the Executive Council in Newburgh, NY, 1971-1974; and Secretary to Secretary General, Newburgh, NY, 1974-1982. In 1982 Sister Mary retired, but provided volunteer services to the Central Administration of the Newburgh Congregation, 1982-1985. Sister earned both a BS and MA in Business Education from Columbia University. She died May 29, 2001.
