This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Joann was born Joann Boneski on November 25, 1937 in Bayonne, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1955 and received the habit on June 12, 1956 when she received the religious name, Sister Eugene Marie. (She began using the name, Sister Joann after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1957 and final vows on August 2, 1960. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Joseph Elementary School, Toms River, NJ, 1957; Holy Family, New Rochelle NY, 1965-1967; and principal at Guardian Angel School, Manhattan, NY, 1967-1985. Sister Joann was a consultant to the education office for the Archdiocese of New York, 1985-1987. She began doing development work for the Congregation, part-time, 1983-85, while she was principal, and then full time after that. Sister Joann served for many years on the Board of Directors of the National Catholic Development Conference. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Mary College. Sister Joann earned a BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY and an MA in Administration and Supervision at Seton Hall.
