Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Christine was born Theresa Boadway on July 15, 1917 in Ellenburg, NY. She entered the Fall River Congregation on September 1, 1951 and received the habit on August 28, 1952 when she received the religious name, Sister Marie Christine. (She began using the name, Sister Christine after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 30, 1954 and final vows on August 30, 1957. During her years in the congregation she served... mostly in the Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA. Her responsibilities included: receptionist for the Motherhouse Community; and yard supervisor for the students at recess and after school. Sister was an excellent seamstress and cook for many of the convents. She served briefly in West Chazy and Plattsburgh, NY, as well as North Dartmouth, MA. She died January 27, 2003. See more
