Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Marie Jeanne was born Cecile Beauregard on February 20, 1929 in St. Giboire, Quebec, Canada. She entered the Fall River Congregation on January 8, 1949 and received the habit on August 25, 1949 when she received the religious name, Sister Marie Jeanne. She pronounced first vows on August 30, 1950 and final vows on August 30, 1953. During her years in the congregation she served in the following ministries: farm maintenance, St. Rose, Acushnet, MA, 1952-1959; Plattsburgh, NY, where she was sacristan at St. Peter’s Church, as well as driver and in charge of maintenance at St. Dominic Convent; Motherhouse, Fall River, MA, 1970-1980, where she worked for the Dominican Sisters in Fall River, first in support services and then in sewing and professional alterations, 1981-1995.Sister was also infirmary assistant, 1995-1998. She has continued to do sewing alterations and, beginning in 2002, she also provided taxi service to the sisters. She died May 18, 2020.
