This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister John Catherine was born Dorothy Arnold on August 27, 1931 in Newburgh, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1951 and received the habit on June 15, 1952 when she received the religious name, Sister John Catherine. She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1953 and final vows on August 21, 1956. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1953-1955; Regina... Coeli, Hyde Park, NY, 1955-1968; and St Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1968-1976. She served as principal at Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, NY, 1976-1985. Sister was director of Saint Nicholas School in Palisades Park, NJ, 1985-2003. She has done pastoral care of the sick and homebound at St. Columba Parish in Hopewell Junction, NY, 2003-?. Sister John Catherine earned a BS in Elementary Education from Villanova; a BS in Home Economics from Marywood in Scranton, PA; and an MS in Education from SUNY at Buffalo. Sister moved to the Meadowview at Wartburg, Mt. Vernon, NY in July, 2017.
