This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Barbara was born Barbara Anderson on February 6, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1953 and received the habit on June 14, 1954 when she received the religious name, Sister Barbara Ann. (She began using the name, Sister Barbara after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 15, 1955 and final vows on August 21, 1958. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Rose, Haddon Heights, 1955-1963; principal at St. Joan of Arc, Camden, NJ,1968-1974; Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, NY, 1963-1968; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1974-1975; principal at St. Ursula, Mount Vernon, NY, 1975-1982; taught mathematics and business at St. Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, NY, 1982-1985; and principal at St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, NY, 1985-2004. Sister moved to Lohman Village in Mt. Vernon, NY in order to minister to our sisters who reside in The Meadowview at Wartburg, Mt. Vernon, NY. Sister Barbara earned her BA in English and her MA in Mathematics from Villanova University, PA.
